Formatting Pages

Because tables conform to the size of the contents within their cells, you can use them to format entire pages. Tables are really the only raw HTML elements that let you control where items appear on your page in a consistent manner. Although it is not as exacting as using DHTML or CSS, tables are very useful and used by most designers (as well as the page editors they use) to layout pages.
The example below shows sample layout for a page. Once all the elements are inserted into a page table, the borders are normally turned off (BORDER=0). The following links show example sites that use tables to control formmatting.
