Materials to turn in on the server
- In your Project1 folder:
- All necessary HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, images, and any other files
Description: In this project, you will combine your previous labs to create an interactive image gallery or portfolio type piece.
- Project 1
- You will be requried to use jQuery as part of the project, so you will need the jQuery library in your js folder.
- Your pages are required to validate as HTML5 pages.
- Creativity: I am not going to prescribe a scenario for you to fit into. The subject, design, and content of the site are up to you (staying within Purdue's guidelines for appropriate content).
- Hover
- Implement the hover affect on a thumbnail gallery within your website somewhere. It must use different images than the weekly assignment and those images must relate to the rest of the site. The site should have one common theme.
- Fixed Sidebar
- Implement a fixed sidebar on the left of the screen that stays there on all pages. It should contain something relevant to the rest of the site.
- Image Slider
- Implement an image slider. It must use different images than the weekly assignment and those images must relate to the rest of the site. The site should have one common theme.
- Something different from the weekly assignment: Each item that is viewed must have a link to that image/item that takes you to another page. Just an idea, but maybe a page where image zoom is implemented and that image can be zoomed in upon.
- Image Zoom
- Implement an image zoom similar to the weekly assignment. It must use different images than the weekly assignment and those images must relate to the rest of the site. The site should have one common theme.
- Do Not simply take your weekly assignments and put them together without attempting to tie them together into a common site. Projects that do this will not receive a passing grade, even if everything works.
- Tie everything together. As just an idea, perhaps the user comes to the home page where there is an image slider (and other things, well designed). Choosing one of the images from the slider navigates you to thumbnails similar to the slider images. Choosing a thumbnail then navigates / or gives you the ability to zoom on that image for a closer look. Just an idea.
Deliverables
You are to deliver the following copies
of the project:
- One finished copy in your share space on the server. Do not modify the files after the due date/time. We will check the timestamp. You should also provide resources, that is a description of any materials that were not created by the student along with the location of where said materials were acquired (URLs, stock photos, etc.)
Grading Criteria
If the project is not functional (does
not work), then your project grade starts at 50%. If it is obvious that you only took your weekly assignments and made very little modifications, then your project grade starts at 50%. This is a professional project;
we will not accept partial work. Late work will not be accepted.
(In the real world, you would not get paid for a project you did not complete.
In our world, you start at 50%)
- 35% Aesthetics & Usability
- (Professional, effective navigation, common scheme across entire site,
use of images, originality, creativity, usability features, intuitive, user friendly, easy to use, etc.)
- 40% Coding
- (Proper indentation, neatness, free from errors, correct logic,
follows typical coding standards, apparent planning, etc.)
- 10% Validation
- (Your pages must validate as HTML5 with zero errors.)
- 10% Commenting
- (Our general rule of thumb is 1 line of comment per line of code.)
- 5% Above and Beyond
Total Possible Points: 100
