Exercise Naming Convention and the Drop Box?
To receive full credit for the exercises you do each week you need to
properly name your files and correctly submit them electronically . The
steps below outline how to successfully accomplish this:
-
When you are completed with the week's exercise file(s), create a folder
that is composed of your first initial, middle initial and last name somewhere
on your computer. For example, my name is James L. Mohler, so my folder
would be jlmohler.
-
Inside that folder place a folder for each exercise being submitted for
that week. For example, if I were submitting Exercise 1 for the first week,
I would create a folder called exercise01 inside of jlmohler.
On weeks where there are more than once exercise being submitted there
may be multiple subfolders in "my name" folder. For example in week five,
I would create a folder called jlmohler that would contain
a folder called exercise05 and a folder called exercise06.
-
Once you have created the exercise folder inside the name folder, insert
the files you are submitting into it. The file(s) should be named as instructed
by your lab instructor or in lecture. Thus, in week 1, I would place the
exercise01.doc into the folder exercise01,
which is inside jlmohler. The path would look like jlmohler/exercise01/exercise01.doc.
-
Once I have my name folder, exercise folder and file(s) for the week's
exercises that I want to submit, I copy the jlmohler folder to the
specified location on the
'Classes on sotdlock2' drive. This
drive will likely be the H: drive (use the My Computer icon to find the
classes network drive). See your lab instructor if you need help finding
the drive
-
Once you find the 'Classes on sotdlock2' drive, access the
cg/cg117 folder that is on it. In this folder you will find drop boxes
for each class section. Find your section's folder and open it. Be careful
that you access the correct section number! If you submit your files in
the wrong drop box you will not receive credit for them!
-
Once you find the right drop box, access it. Inside you will find folders
respective to each exercise. You do not have read access to these folders,
so you will not be able to open them. Click drag your name folder from
your desktop or wherever you created it to the respective exercise folder
in the proper drop box. Again this folder should contain the all of the
exercises you are submitting for that week. Voila! You have properly named
and electronically submitted your exercises.
